The first night of the fest the shuttles had zero organization and essentially left thousands stranded. Meanwhile, fans were scrambling to figure out transportation/accommodations since the venue change was practically last minute. IIRC, Ultra only had a handful of months to find a new venue as they were expecting to stay at their usual spot but landed on the Virginia Key location. It apparently takes months for the location to recover after the fest since the grounds are pretty much torn up to build the festival, and Ultra doesn't do anything to help reduce the effect. Ultra was forced to change venue locations in 2019 after many citizens demanded the festival leave due to how poor Ultra treats the city and the venue. Most surreal police state experience I ever had.įunny, this video actually is pointed at the raised seating area me and my friends were hanging out when this all went down and you can see people being hoisted down and how many are on the ground floor. Honestly were treated like rats by the riot police. I had one of those gas cannisters explode almost under my ass as I was running in the parking lot. Of course, even out in the parking lot the riot police would form up and shoot gas and rubber bullets at any crowds of people nearby the venue. When me and my friends had the rubber bullet guns pointed at us in the raised seating by riot police on the ground floor we figured it was time go but we watched a full on battle between the riot police and the thousands of people on the ground floor before that. Once the riot police were formed up they started pushing people back with shields and brought out rubber bullets and some kind of gas grenades'. The crowd of people on the ground floor was thousands and they were pissed throwing cups, bottles, and everything on hand at the riot police. Coming single file from each side and then filling in front of the stage 4 ranks deep all across the length of the ground floor. Then suddenly from behind the stage came over a hundred riot police. Just someone on a mic trying to tell everyone to calm down. None of us really understood at the time why the music stopped or what was going on. I saw the underground area jack beats was playing and found some seats on the raised area to watch the main stage with some other friends before it got so crowed and insane that the fire marshal shut down the event.Īs much as a madhouse it was before once they tried to shut it down it turned into a warzone and like something out a movie. I didn't get down there but I had some friends that did and said there was piss everywhere since people were peeing on the floors and in cups and bottles since they couldn't get out to go to the bathroom and were all rolling. People were being hoisted down from the raised seating. They couldn't fit more people on the ground floor and the people down there couldn't even get out because the exits were blocked with people trying to get in. It is hard to explain how stuffed with people every square inch of everything was. The dj stage at the far end of one of the courts on a platform.Īs big as the venue was HARD totally over sold the tickets and there were way too many people inside. The 'ground floor' is where the basketball court would have been with all the seats raised up in a ring around it. It was at the forum the old place the Lakers used to play before the staple center.
